Luchemos por la Vida 31th Anniversary

Life is fight and fighting is life, said the presentation folder of our Association, born in the City of Buenos Aires on June 20th, 1990, with one goal:to strive for no more people dying in traffic. At that time, we were unaware that we were facing a pandemic: traffic accidents, that strikes the world in general and very especially in Argentina. Very soon we learned, from experts from successful countries on the subject, that this pandemic, unlike the coronavirus, which is currently hitting us today, has a cure with a comprehensive and efficient state policy for road safety.

Time went by, and Luchemos activities multiplied (In Spanish): access to the mass media made it possible to air television and radio awareness campaignsfor 29 uninterrupted years, which up to now reach the borders of the country and exceed them. This year, the "Cell phone while driving kills"campaign is being disseminated on television channels, radios and other audiovisual media all across the country.

Today, among the main actions in progress are our legislation proposals "Crimes against Road Safety", and "Reduction to 30 km/h on city streets"in line with the strong global call "Streets for Life" #Love30, slogan of the 6th United Nations Global Road Safety Week that we contributed to carry out in our country in May of this year, with important achievements, to accomplish safer, healthier, greener and more livable cities.

The development of educational workshops in schools, training courses for teachers, municipalities and companies, the elaboration of statistics, studies and research, a specialized magazine (In Spanish), the annual Luchemos por la Vida Awards (In Spanish), the elaboration of videos, posters and flyers (In Spanish),  and other didactic materials (In Spanish) which feed our web page, the YouTube channel and our presence in social networks such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, the organization of several free virtual colloquiums on Road Safety key issues with leading international specialists as speakers, the free Online Course “Conduciendo Por la Vida” (In Spanish), are just some of the paths traveled in these years, of intense activity with and for the Argentine community, with international significance. Years full of new experiences, learnings and also, it must be said, frustrations.

But we understand that all efforts made were worthwhile, having managed to place the problem of road safety on the agenda of mass media and politicians, for having encouraged other people to act, instead of waiting passively for everything to change, and above all, because many lives were saved in traffic with the changes achieved in these 31 years in Argentina (In Spanish).

Nevertheless, there is still a lot to do so that the high casualties rates in traffic drop significantly in our country. That is the reason of our commitment to keep working.

We appreciate the invaluable help of the media, journalists, sponsors and all the volunteers who believed in us and joined to our efforts. Who understood that this is everyone's problem and that, together, we can accomplish the utopia of nobody dying in traffic.

Thank you very much!  Luchemos keeps fighting for life!
