8th United Nations Global Road Safety Week
Luchemos por la Vida held various activities with schools

As part of the 8th Global Road Safety Week #MakeWalkingSafe #MakeCyclingSafe, promoted by the United Nations from 12-18 May 2025, Luchemos por la Vida, together with NGOs from across the country, decided to commit to this initiative and its main goal: promoting walking and cycling due to their significant health and environmental benefits by replacing car use. But the challenge is doing so in safe conditions on the streets. Because more than a quarter of those who die in traffic are pedestrians and cyclists. The majority are young people between the ages of 5 and 29.
During this week, Luchemos por la Vida mobilized the community from the schools. We reached out to young people and teachers with a proposal: Answer the question, "Do we travel safely to and from school?"

Activities carried out by Luchemos por la Vida during the 8th Road Safety Week
- Dissemination through mass media and social networks of the 8th Global Road Safety Week and its goals #MakeWalkingSafe #MakeCyclingSafe.
- More than 500 invitations were sent to NGOs and schools to actively participate in this 8th World Week, providing information and activity suggestions.
- Presentation to the Executive Director of the National Road Safety Agency of a report on the goals of the 8th Global Road Safety Week with the special request of:
- Support the legislative initiative to reduce the maximum speed limit to 30 km/h on city streets to reduce traffic deaths by two-thirds, especially among the most vulnerable (pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists), promoted since 2021 by Luchemos por la Vida and other NGOs.
- Promote the improvement of road infrastructure in cities across the country to achieve a safe road design (continuous sidewalks in good condition, marked pedestrian crossings, signaled streets, bike lanes, street lighting, etc.).
- Incentivize effective controls and sanctions to reduce risky behaviors among road users (drinking and driving, speeding, disregarding pedestrians, cell phone use while driving, etc.).
- Support legislative changes to achieve safer vehicles in Argentina that incorporate ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).

- Workshops were held for more than 280 students and teachers at secondary schools in the City of Buenos Aires and the Province of Buenos Aires throughout the week, inviting them to conduct a research project on "Road Safety in the School Environment."
- A Mini Mobility Snapshot was developed with students from School No. 6 in Villa Lugano, Buenos Aires City, accompanying them to problematic crossroads in their surroundings to gather evidence of the problem and reflect on how to increase road safety there, in order to submit a petition to local authorities for changes in road infrastructure.
- Flyers were distributed and posters were displayed for the 8th World Week in public spaces with students and teachers, to raise awareness of this initiative and share it with motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians.

Several Argentine NGOs, media outlets, driving schools, and schools, such as Concientizar Para Prevenir (Villa Carlos Paz, Córdoba), Honrar la Vida Estrellas Amarillas, Junín, and ADM de Mar de Ajó (Pcia. de Buenos Aires), Estrellas Amarillas and La Voz de Trenel (La Pampa), among others, joined this proposal.
The goals of the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety (2021-2030) can be achieved in Argentina and around the world. During this 8th Global Week, Luchemos por la Vida continued working to raise awareness of road safety and to promote community engagement in the search for evidence-based solutions, on the path toward achieving the goal of reducing mortality by 50% by 2030.
