November 15th: World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims – Luchemos por la Vida Activities

November 15th

World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims

Activities

Luchemos por la Vida developed several activities dedicated to the memory of the 20 people who have died daily in Argentina in the last 25 years and to stop the road pandemic.

  • Virtual Coloquium about “The day after for relatives of traffic victims” organized by the associations Luchemos por la Vida and Madres del Dolor.  The objective was to reflect on the damages that each biased life in traffic causes, to the direct victims and to the other victims, their families and loved ones. The emotional repercussions, the consequences on their life quality what is being done and what is pending in Europe and Argentina, were analyzed to provide assistance and support from the crucial moment of facing the news of the tragedy, onwards. The event featured presentations by Eugenia Doménech, from PAT, from Barcelona, Spain, Viviam Perrone, from Madres del Dolor, María Cristina Isoba from Luchemos por la Vida and officials from the ANSV (National Road Safety Agency) of Argentina.

  • Besides, Luchemos por la Vida, with the adhesion of the Episcopal Commission for Migrations and Tourism, sent a letter and an allusive printable poster to every Christian church and parish in Argentina, asking each bishop and priest to say a few words at the celebrations, not only in memory of the victims, but also on the responsibility of the believers in safe driving. The poster is aimed at remembering the care of life in the streets and routes, especially to the importance of giving pedestrian priority, the most vulnerable role in the traffic system.

The most important tribute to the victims is doing what’s necessary to stop these preventable deaths from repeating themselves. Keeping up with the request from the United Nations under the “Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011/20”, renewed for the next decade, to halve deaths in traffic on this decade, pending objective in our country, Luchemos por la Vida calls up on each and every one of the citizens, and especially the competent authorities, to take on their responsibility with concrete actions to diminish significantly the number of deaths and injured people.

We all have a responsibility in caring for life
facing the road deaths pandemic.
