Launching of the Global Road Safety Week 2021

6th United Nations Global Road Safety Week

17 - 23 May 2021

#StreetsForLife #Love30

     This year, United Nations celebrate the 6th Global Road Safety Week, with the slogan “#StreetsForLife #Love30”. It promotes establishing a maximum speed of 30km/h on the streets to save lives by slowing down when driving, especially the lives of the most vulnerable in traffic, and achieve safer, healthier, greener and more livable cities.

     This objective is part of the goals of the new Decade for Road Safety 2021-2030, which aims to reduce traffic mortality by 50%. It’s estimated that two thirds of deaths on city streets can be prevented by reducing speed to 30 km/h.

     Luchemos por la Vida and Madres del Dolor have been called to promote this campaign in our country. For that purpose, they are carrying out different activities:

*Monday, May 17 at 5:00 p.m. in Corrientes Avenue and Cerrito Street, Buenos Aires City, walk displaying posters and banners;

*Tuesday, May 18 at 6:00 p.m. International virtual Colloquium “Reduction to 30 km/h in streets. Cities for Life. The United Nations and the World Health Organization proposal”;

*Dissemination related to the Global Road Safety Week and its goals in mass media and social networks;

* Petition to the responsible authorities of each city in the country inviting them to join the 6th Global Week, to declare it of interest, to sign the open letter and, above all, to establish the 30 km/h reduction on the streets;

*Sending information and invitation to NGOs and educators to join the Global Week and implement actions to reduce 30 km/h on streets.

Everyone is invited to share and participate in these activities.
