7th Global Road Safety Week for Road Safety

Luchemos por la Vida developed several activities

to reduce 30 km/h on streets

Luchemos por la Vida supported this 7th Global Road Safety Week for Road Safety, #RethinkMobility #Love30, from May 15 to 21, 2023, promoted by United Nations, challenging politicians responsible for road safety to #RethinkMobility (#Rethinkmobility) #Love30 to make walking, cycling and public transport safe and convenient so that people can make the switch to active and sustainable mobility . In Argentina, this Association prioritized the reduction of the maximum speed in urban areas to 30 km/h. One of the recommendations of the Global Plan for the Decade of Action 2021-2030. The goal to reduce deaths and generate safer, greener and more habitable cities.

For this,  Luchemos por la Vida together with Madres del Dolor, carried out an intense activity in the weeks prior to it, achieving the enthusiastic support of many cities and NGOs in Argentina. The week was launched on Monday, May 15, with a walk at the Obelisk, in the City of Buenos Aires, to make this premise visible and raise awareness among motorists and passers-by, with the support of numerous NGOs, relatives of traffic victims and authorities of the City of Buenos Aires.

The week, its objective and activities were widely disseminated in the mass media and social networks, with spots and interviews for the written press, radio and television, such as the Télam News Agency; Los Andes de Mendoza, Conurbano, El 1 Digital, Noticias Nqn, Total Medios, Todo Riesgo, Infocielo, among many others.

Previusly, information and newsletters were sent to more than 900 municipalities, NGOs, and educators, maintaining communications with national, provincial, and municipal authorities, and various NGOs in Argentina.

We share some images of some cities that joined the week such as the Municipality of Trelew (Chubut), Municipality of Dolores (Buenos Aires Province) and Awareness to Prevent from Villa Carlos Paz (Córdoba).

The significant support received for the initiative to reduce the maximum speed on urban streets to 30 km/h, #CallesParaLaVida, is an enormous incentive to continue working for it, and to think that the action goals of the new World Decade for Safety World Cup 2021-2030 can be achieved in Argentina and in the world, and reduce traffic deaths by half.
