November 17th, The “World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims 2019” was commemorated

The 3rd Sunday of November was instituted by the United Nations as the World Day in memory of the millions of traffic victims around the world.

Luchemos por la Vida developed several activities dedicated to their memory and aimed at changing this tragic reality, among them: a press release was sent to over 5000 Argentinian mass media: radios, TV channels, news agencies, online portals and other audiovisual media, with a tribute message to the victims and awareness, that was consequently widespread by many of them.

Every day 20 fatal victims: here 20 faces of 2019. Watch the video.

Besides, Luchemos por la Vida, with the adhesion of the Episcopal Commission for Migrations and Tourism, designed and printed 10,000 posters that were sent to every Christian church and parish in Argentina, asking each bishop and priest to say a few words at the celebrations, not only in memory of the victims, but also on the responsibility of the believers in safe driving. The poster is aimed at remembering the care of life in the streets and routes, this year dedicated especially to the importance of giving pedestrian priority, the most vulnerable role in the traffic system.

This Association accompanied the relatives and friends of victims of road incidents, along with other groups and social organizations, on Friday afternoon, when they took 20 laps around the Obelisco of Buenos Aires to promote road awareness and make visible the 20 deaths per day that are registered in Argentina in traffic incidents.

The most important tribute to the victims is doing what’s necessary to stop these preventable deaths from repeating themselves. Keeping up with the request from the United Nations under the “Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011/20” to halve deaths in traffic on this decade, pending objective in our country, Luchemos por la Vida calls up on each and every one of the citizens, and especially the competent authorities, to take on their responsibility with concrete actions to diminish significantly the number of deaths and injured people.

We all have a responsibility in caring for life.
