The event took place on May 7th and 8th in San José, Costa Rica, and Luchemos por la Vida was especially invited to this Congress on Child and Juvenile Road Safety in the Americas, promoted by the United Nations. Important representatives of road safety from the region participated in it, together with governmental agencies, NGOs, groups of victims, private sector organizations, medical associations and agencies for development, who work on the improvement of road safety in Latin America.
This organization’s Research and Road Safety Education’s Director, María Cristina Isoba, participated in this important meeting in which she had the opportunity to present the latest campaigns for radio and tv that Luchemos por la Vida carries out in Argentina, in order to promote the use of child restraint systems and the use of helmet in motorbike riders, so as to contribute to the safety of children and youths in traffic.
The conference covered the advances accomplished on the region, in some aspects, in this first five years of the decade, and also important pending matters to improve road safety in Latin America, in road infraestructure, safe roads for the most vulnerable people in traffic, safety standards of vehicles and child restraint systems, among other topics of interest.
