In times of Coronavirus classroom at home: distance Road Education

In this complex moment of forced isolation to take care of everyone's health, it becomes very important not to stop, as much as possible, the access of children and young people to education. Wherever there is internet, cellphones, tablets or computers, this is possible.

Luchemos por la Vida invites teachers to add Road Education as a cross-cutting theme to the different curricular areas. For this, different resources are offered: materials, videos and an Online course that can be used remotely.

Our website: www.luchemos.org.ar, makes available to everyone, a fundamental tool for the dissemination of road safety and the prevention of injuries and deaths in traffic through different sections: Magazine, Research, Statistics, Campaigns, News, etc. In addition, it provides spaces for everyone's participation through sections in which different complaints can be made. It also contains testimonies of traffic victims, shared in the “Tell your story” section.

This website provides information for the teacher but also allows students to research about the topics proposed by the teacher.

For primary or elementary level students, the excellent video "The pedestrian hunters", to be used with children from 10 to 13 years old, is a film that promotes the participation of the students and stimulates their ability to reflect on the subject of the traffic system and safe behavior of pedestrians. Through a funny story, which has a group of children as the main protagonists, it shows the main risk behaviors of pedestrians, children and adults, trying to awaken in the audience the reflection about what they see. It is accompanied by a didactic guide for the teacher's activity.

For high school students, Luchemos por la Vida offers the free online course "Conduciendo por la Vida" on how to move safely in traffic as pedestrians and drivers. It is part of the successful “Conduciendo por la Vida” Program, which has been developed for 4 years, supported by FORD. More than 10.500 young people already participated enthusiastically through face-to-face workshops in high schools, and more than 2.500 people received their Certificate for having completed the Online Course offered by the Program on its website www.conduciendoporlavida.com

The course consists in a presentation video and 10 short videos lasting 5 to 8 minutes, with various contents, such as statistical information, how to move safely as pedestrians and cyclists, the psychophysical effects of alcohol, distractions, kinetic energy and speed, what is the use of wearing a helmet while driving and seat belts, among others. They can be viewed separately and at any time and does not require prior registration. If you see them all in order, from the same device, and 3 simple questions are answered correctly after each video, you can receive the full course Certificate at the end.

Teachers can take advantage of this distance educational material, developed by experts, integrating the theme into the different curricular subjects, with the help of the information that is available to them on the website (See Guide for educators in Spanish).
